Here’s a “sneak preview” of four unique women. In early 2001, they decided to sing together for fun and liked what they heard! The pips welcomed new Lead, Nancy Jamgochian, in January 2009 and the fun continues. The name, “Sneak Preview” really fits because the more they learn about each other, the more it seems that this is only a sneak preview of even better things to come!
Lead- Nancy Jamgochian is no stranger to the stage, having performed for rock, jazz, and Sweet Adeline audiences since her 20's. At home, Nancy and husband Steve enjoy lake-living in Terrell, NC and love entertaining family and friends. An evening's outing on the water with adorable grandson Sam, two daughters and sons-in-law is a great way to relax. Conan, Nancy's cat, prefers to guard the dock until the family returns. Nancy balances a busy career as an administrative professional for an international manufacturing corporation. For Nancy, being center-stage with Sneak Preview is a fun combination of challenge and relaxation.
Baritone- Having moved from Miami , FL, Sharen Fowler now hangs her kayak in Arden with hubby Ben and two cats. They also enjoy hiking and mountain biking. When not playing outside or cat petting, Sharen Ben own and operate Fowler & Associates Home Builders, Inc., a residential construction company. Sharen retired from her medical career in 1999 to help operate their company and now applies her expertise to her hobbies as well as her work. For instance, she is good with finances (“Sharen, can we afford this?”), dabbles in making jewelry (“I’ve made some earrings! Let’s buy outfits to match them!”), and is great with customer satisfaction (“Repeat Performance? No Problem!!!”). Singing is a high priority for Sharen. Each week she chooses to commit her musical talent and time for the long drive to chorus and quartet. We are so lucky!
Tenor- Betty Mauser Scipione is a native of Hickory or as close as you can get to it. Her German ancestors settled in the Catawba Valley more than 300 years ago. Betty wins the pet contest with three cats and one dog. She and husband Mike enjoy being in the great outdoors, especially athletic events and hiking in the mountains. We are especially fond of her new cabin in the mountains since it has just enough room for a quartet retreat! Betty is a degreed electrical engineer (don’t let the blonde routine fool you) and directs corporate education at Mitchell Community College in Statesville. For leisure, she enjoys all types of arts such as drawing, painting, singing, and hand bell choir at church. And did we mention she is a belly dancer? Now that’s art!
Bass- Sandra Hawkins was born and raised in Taylorsville. After some years living abroad in Raleigh and Hudson, North Carolina, she now lives back on the street where she grew up! Husband Joe Ray, daughter Kali, son Justin and two cats complete the household. Sandra spends free time (what’s that?) on family adventures, singing, reading a good book and relocating cats to get to her computer keyboard. Sandra has one child graduating college as the other is entering college. And just to make life interesting, she has a successful career as an Operational Excellence leader with Broyhill Furniture Industries. Way to hang in there Sandra!
These four ladies come from four towns, have four different careers and family situations. The camaraderie they have found and their love of singing barbershop harmony is what brought them together. Friendship makes it last!
