Musical Director

Jean Danaher

In 1997, Jean Danaher visited Carolina Style Chorus (then known as the Hickory Chorus) as a member of the Sweet Adelines Region 14 faculty to help the chorus with choreography for an upcoming show. The chorus members quickly fell in love with her, and after she visited a few more times, the chorus approached her about taking on the director position. Jean decided she would direct Carolina Style for "just a year to help them out until they find a permanent director".

Over the past 20 years, Jean has taken Carolina Style literally from worst to first! It has been an exciting ride filled with hard work, laughter, and the forming of lifelong friendships.  Jean's elevation to Master Director status at the 2011 Region 14 contest has added exciting momentum for the Carolina Style Chorus. Jean has helped the chorus achieve two Regional Chorus Championships, which resulted in them competing at International Competitions in Denver (2012) and New Orleans (2019), as well as an invite to compete as a"Wild Card" contestant in Las Vegas (2016).

Jean has been a Sweet Adeline since 1972,  has served on Region 14’s faculty for more than 24 years, coaches other choruses and quartets in Region 14, and is a skilled and experienced choreographer. She is a charismatic musical leader, and her creativity runs full tilt 24 hours a day. She is always coming up with new ideas, plans, and dreams. She’s imaginative and innovative, and her vitality and verve are unequaled.

An active quartet singer for 39 years, Jean won the Region 14 Quartet Championship singing tenor with SOCIETY SWING in 1998, and has won numerous additional medals and awards. She also presently enjoys being a dual member with the Song Of Atlanta Show Chorus. Jean has a gift for music and a special flair, the heart of an angel, and a voice to match; she is a joy to sing with and a joy to sing for. Her personality envelopes everyone in her presence.

Jean promotes friendship, kindness, and always keeping Sweet Adelines in the proper perspective (family first!). She believes in hard work, bringing your best to the table every time, and a dedication to working on the barbershop craft.

A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Jean holds a bachelor’s degree in Interior Design.  She has one son and lives in Matthews with her husband Roy.
